Basics of
Horsegears
ratings
Horsegears ratings are solely designed to measure a horses
potential speed. In no way should they be used as even a
guide to a horses soundness.
Horsegears
ratings are based on side on photos, as this view best
displays a horses power gearing lever proportions. For
this reason ratings should be used as a guide only. Full
inspection that includes breeding analysis, soundness,
fore and hind views, airways etc, should also be under
taken before any purchase.
Power and
distance gearing
are both assessed
independently, and from varied levers of the horse. They
should not be confused with, or related to each other.
Power gearing is a
combination of both speed and power. Thus power gearing
is no indication of what distance a horse may be best
suited over. rather it is an indication of what speed a
horse may travel at over its favored distance.
Horsegears ratings displayed on
site are mostly based on a single side on photo, basing
ratings on one photo will never be 100% accurate.
All stats displayed on
site are from research, and are only based on the horses
assessed, thus they may vary over time and locations.
We do require quality
photos to make accurate assessments, photos taken too
close to a horse, or those showing poor definition such
as grays, or those untrimmed, may not be suitable.
The one horse theory. All
horses are individuals, and each horse will in the same
way defy the standard in its own particular way.. But because one horse has
particular traits, levers or a racing style that goes
against the standard, this should not be used to assess
horses overall, or used to base debate on. Many horses must be considered before
any conclusions can be made.
A high Horsegears
rating is
only an indication of speed, it just places the numbers
on your side, in the same way as a well bred horse has a
better chance of winning races than that of a lowly bred
horse. Their will always be horses of little breeding,
and poor conformation that overcome the number and odds
and win races. The advantage RCSR have over breeding is
that you wont have to pay extra for the horse power
geared to win races, as unlike breeding, it is still
relatively new and rarely used.
Horsegears ratings are based on
traditional balance, AND modern power gearing. As power
gearing is relatively new to the horse racing game, the
ratings we attach to horses may contradict with opinions of the
past, which have been based solely on over-all balance,
Horsegears ratings are still
being developed, and with updates may change as time
goes by. This should be considered when looking at
material, theory or ratings listed on this site.
We do not claim
Horsegears
ratings are fool proof, or the only method needed to
access a horses potential.
