Overall width - its
affect on gearing.
When assessing racehorse conformation the front and
rear views
cannot be discounted. Straight legs certainly produce
sounder horses. But if you have two sound horses, having
straighter or more correct legs, is unlikely to
give either horse a speed advantage. A technically
correct horse has more chance of winning races simply
because it has more chance of competing in them, due to
staying sound.
But what effect does width of the fore and hind
quarters have on the power and distance gearing of a
racehorse?
