Quarter Horse verses
Thoroughbred conformation
Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds are both bred for
racing. The primary difference being the distances they
are bred to race over. So how does the bone structure of
the Quarter Horse that usually races between 300 - 800m,
compare to the Thoroughbred who likewise races over 900
- 3200m?
Interestingly we have
found the Quarter Horse
that is bred to stay, also has similar conformation to the
Thoroughbred that is bred to stay, despite the great
variations in distance of these races. And again a similar
result with the sprinters of both breeds. An example being a Quarter Horse with
the typical staying traits of a sloping
shoulder, short back and smaller hind quarters can be
expected to race up to the endurance Quarter Horse
distance of 800m, and the same type of Thoroughbred up
to 3200m.
