Growth
rates of the Weanling, Yearling and mature Thoroughbred
Objective. To observe growth
rates of specific bones/proportions of the growing
racehorse.
Results. Key: As a Weanling
ages towards a yearling it shoulder shoots upwards,
before again sloping down as a mature horse.Horses grow
from the legs up, and then from the back to the front.
Its not until a horse matures that it
*prime movers of the upper body are fully developed. A
maturing horses forequarters are likely to fill out
last.
